Cleaning in the kitchen: doors first and foremost!

Perhaps it’s because spring has just ended, and we are spending most of our time indoors, but cleaning the kitchen is no longer merely a routine. Let’s start with the nerve centres, the doors, to investigate the cleaning of all the other elements of the kitchen in future “issues”, including the most hidden and less visible ones.


3, 2, 1...Ready, steady, clean!

In the kitchen, there is no shortage of water, stains and dirt, and even the most hard-wearing materials require specific care to keep them gleaming and spotless over time.
Before you begin cleaning, keep in mind that our number one friend is a soft cloth, better still if it is microfibre, as it cleans the most popular kitchen door materials in-depth without using any detergents!

Stainless steel doors

Steel is an ultra-professional material: how can you behave like a true chef and keep it gleaming? With soap and water, or with neutral detergent, rubbing it on a non-abrasive sponge.
And for tougher stains, hot white wine vinegar or methylated spirit, rinsing off thoroughly and drying with a soft cloth.

Laminate and decorative melamine doors

For normal cleaning of your laminate or decorative melamine kitchen cabinet doors, you can use neutral detergent or, more simply, a soft cloth, better still if it is microfibre. To remove stubborn dirt, you can use a soft brush or sponge, together with liquid or neutral detergents, removing all traces with a dry cloth.

Wooden doors

For the maintenance of solid wood or veneered doors, use a soft cloth or a microfibre cloth dampened with water, making sure you always rub in the same direction as the grain.
For more in-depth cleaning, use a cloth with a small amount of non-abrasive detergent instead of water, then rinse with the well wrung-out cloth and dry all surfaces thoroughly.

Lacquered doors

Lacquered doors require the use of a soft cloth and non-abrasive detergents, or more simply a microfibre cloth. To remove stubborn stains, a very diluted ethyl alcohol solution may be used to clean glossy lacquered surfaces only.
One tip: immediately wipe away any liquids that come into contact with the door, to prevent lingering stains.

Glass doors

Glass is really beautiful, yet it is also very delicate. To make sure it continues to gleam and stays transparent, clean with a soft damp cloth and non-abrasive detergents. For matt glass surfaces, opt for specific sponges. Avoid using abrasive creams or steel wool pads at any time as they would irreparably scratch the surface; also avoid using acetone, thinners and ammonia.

Porcelain stoneware doors

Porcelain stoneware, a material affording superior performance and styling properties, can be cleaned with a soft cloth, better still if it is microfibre, dampened with hot water and neutral detergent if necessary. Then rinse off and dry thoroughly with a cloth. Limescale stains and residue can be removed using white wine vinegar or vinegar-based detergents, applying the product uniformly, leaving on for a few minutes and then rinsing off with water.
