Simple rules for kitchen cleaning and hygiene

The kitchen, like all environments in which humidity concentrates in greater degree, is more prone to the development of bacteria and mites. These organisms have significant impact in the spreading of diseases and various allergies, and they in fact find a perfect natural habitat in household humidity.

Hygiene

With regard to cleaning in general, one of the first things to keep in mind is that the kitchen, like all environments in which humidity concentrates in greater degree, is one of the rooms of the house more prone to the development of bacteria and mites.
These organisms have significant impact in the spreading of diseases and various allergies, and they in fact find a perfect natural habitat in household humidity.
Even more so if there is association with dust.

For this reason it is very important to try to keep the humidity level of the rooms below a certain percentage (50% at least), ventilate the rooms often (at least 10 minutes each morning and afternoon), keep the doors of other rooms closed while you cook (as the temperature and humidity rises) and, above all, actively use the suction devices placed above the hobs.
Consequently, it is good practice to also periodically check the filters of these units (approximately every 6 months is a reasonable period) verify the degree of functionality and replace them as necessary.
In the kitchen, bare floors that are not covered with carpets or mats and window curtains which are not too heavy or too long are preferable: these items are often hard to clean thoroughly therefore can become a perfect nest for mites.

Cleanliness

The floor of a room like the kitchen is always subject to becoming dirty with accidental splashes and drops of different substances.
It’s important in order to maintain a good appearance of each finish that there should be a habit of removing a newly created stain while it is still fresh.
There may be different type of stains, and to each one the most appropriate treatment must be applied: if the stain dries quickly, it usually consists of water-soluble food substances (such as sugars, starches, etc.) and hot water is the most effective remedy for its removal. If it is sticky and persistent, it may become necessary to use a specific treatment.

Before resorting to aggressive substances, you can try to intervene immediately with a mixture of baking soda mixed with hydrogen peroxide, which is effective in most cases.
If it is still not enough, in order not to ruin anything, it is always better to avoid resorting to acids or abrasive tools that can cause permanent scratches on delicate finishes (for example they are cause harm to shiny floors): cream cleansers or gels are always more desirable as products for the stubborn stains.
Particular attention must be paid when cleaning the joints, this is where dirt easy accumulates.
A good rule is to periodically, (at least once a week), pour on the floor a degreaser diluted in a certain amount of water, and then to persist on the joints with a stiff bristle brush.
Finally, a word of advice when the weather is bad and the freshly washed floors never seem to dry: is to accelerate the process by in fact just adding half a glass of alcohol to the water prior to washing the floor.
